A Little About Us
Our names are Chris and Trish Webb. We met in South Africa during an intensive one-year missions leadership development program called NieuCommunities Before we even met, we both felt that God had called us into overseas ministry. We both felt a deep pull to Europe. During our year in South Africa, God refined and developed our knowledge of our passions and identity.
If we had to summarize it, we would say that we are passionate about:
A Little History
During our time in South Africa, God further refined our call to Europe to the more specific location of Amsterdam as our next step. So, in January 2004 we applied to work with Christian Associates International. Chris had worked with CAI in various short-term endeavors since 2000. At the time of our application, we knew 2 things: what our passions were and where God was calling us. From the CAI side, there was not a team to join in Amsterdam at that point; however, after 2 months of training, psychological evaluations, and waiting we were accepted as CAI staff. Over the next year and a half, a team and a dream developed as God called people to Amsterdam.
Before we left for Amsterdam we wrote on our website: "What exactly God has in mind is yet to be seen. We do have an idea that I will share with you, but keep in mind that this is a dream on paper that must take shape as we play our parts in God’s unfolding story."
After 17 months of raising support and preparing for Amsterdam, our first year did not go as we had hoped. We dreamed of a city-center fusion of leadership development, church-planting and an arts-café - birthed in partnership with the existing CAI church plant (Crossroads International Church) in Amsterdam. What nobody had anticipated were the deep complexities that might arise in the forging of a mutually agreeable partnership with Crossroads. After long hard months of seeking God and each other in the attempt to forge a partnership, CAI and Crossroads came to the agreement that it was not time to go forward with the initiative in the center of Amsterdam. Our team and CAI sensed very clearly that God was moving us out of Amsterdam. We desired to take a path of humility and grace in the hope of God's dreams being furthered rather than trying to build our own kingdom.
In the process of asking "what comes next," we looked in many directions. (You can read pieces of this journey in the archives of our website.
What’s Next?
In June 2006 Trish and I were invited to explore working with a CAI planted church in the neighboring city of The Hague for the next few years (Crossroads The Hague). At the time we were exploring the possibility of moving to France and in the end discovered that a move to France would require more preparation and would be taking on too much all at once. The possibility of working in The Hague has come as an answer to prayer and we believe that it allows us to build on the momentum that we have gathered laying foundations this year as we’ve been building relationships, learning Dutch, and submerging into life in The Netherlands.
We are very excited at the possibilities of what God has for our time in The Hague. Though our first year was not what we hoped for, God is more faithful than imaginable and has been present with us and has granted us and our team many amazing ministry opportunities this year including the privilege of walking with people as they explore life in God and seeing people come to know Him.
As we wrote a year ago, “what exactly God has in mind is yet to be seen”, but assuming things go to plan, Trish will be leading the Children’s Ministry team at Crossroads. At the moment of writing, we are still in conversations defining Chris's role but the ideas right now surround helping to open pathways between the people of Crossroads and Social Compassion ministires in the city. In addition, Chris will be working on a full-time school program to finish his bachelor’s in Community Development, and we will both be adjusting to being first-time parents (January 28th is Trish’s due date).
